As we are now into summer flying hours I thought it was time to give you some updates on what has been going on and also pass on some new information.
Flying Strip
I think everyone agrees that we really do have a superb strip now and our thanks go to the "Lawn Doctor" who has shown what can be done. It is very important to keep the electric fence in good shape to keep out the sheep.
Clubhouse
The building work has started on the Clubhouse and its surrounds. We hope to have some security bars fitted to the shed doors and clubhouse door when the work is finished. You will see that all our property is temporarily stored in the clubhouse so apologies for the inconvenience. Hopefully it will not be for very long.
Noise Tests
The noise test equipment is now back in the clubhouse in the usual place. As you probably know, Antony Redding has agreed to become a noise tester so there are now six of us.
Frequencies
Quite a few members appear to be taking advantage of the 27Meg trial and so far there have been no reports of any problems.
Social Activities
The skittles evening planned for 1st April had to be cancelled because insufficient numbers said they would attend. We have been very close to cancelling previous such events for the same reason. If you have any thoughts on this, or any other ideas for events, please let me know or tell Colin Clark, Social Secretary, on 01981 250496.
Training, etc.
The committee discussed how we could make it easier for new members in particular, or indeed existing members, to arrange model inspections, noise checks and then get some training time. We concluded that we should, for a trial period, allocate one flying session per week to be primarily for training. Starting on the 3rd May and for every Tuesday evening afterwards through the summer months until further notice, from 5.00 pm until 8.30pm, we will have someone on the field to carry out checks and provide training. We will also normally have the club's training aircraft, the Uno-Wot , plus buddy box radio gear, charged up and ready to go. Just turn up, weather permitting, and let's get some more people flying. We will see what demand there is because obviously that will determine how long we keep the sessions going.
I must stress that this does not mean normal flying on Tuesdays is affected but we would like to think that beginners will be given some priority and latitude.
