Winter now seems to be well and truly gone and we have had some really good flying weather in recent weeks. So, we thought we had better put out another newsletter. There is not a great deal to report however, so, if any of you have any items you would like included in future, please let me know. "For sale/wanted" items are always good for inclusion.
Membership
Enclosed with your mailed copy of this newsletter is a list of members who have agreed to have their names and telephone numbers published. I must apologise to Ken Boyce for missing him off the last list - especially annoying for him as he was one of the first to renew for 2007!
Our membership stands at 46 including 7 Junior members.We welcome the following new members to the Club:
David Hermiston, who is a Junior member from MalvernRussell Downs from Ross-on-Wye
John Ratcliffe also from Ross-on-Wye
The Field
The strip is now back into pretty good shape so it is important that we keep the sheep off it. Hence we have an electric fence, which has NOT been put back properly on several occasions, allowing sheep on to our precious turf.
When you re-erect the fence please check the following:
- the posts must be pushed in firmly, pointing slightly outwards;
- both strands of wire must be securely slotted on to the posts;
- each corner has two posts to help tension, and the sides and ends of the strip form a rectangle;
- make sure the wires are taut, adjust the drum if necessary and ensure the retaining pin is in the hole to stop it slackening;
- last, but not least, re-connect the battery and put the red clip on the wire. Listen to the control box and you will hear the regular pulsing. Touching the wire is not recommended!
The Show
As you know, this is being held on 1st and 2nd September and we will be asking for your help as usual. We hope for a flypast on Saturday 1st September by a Spitfire from the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight - timing to be arranged.
John Warner has provided an update on this subject which is copied below:You may have noticed that we now sport two web-site addresses, www.herefordshiremodelaeroclub.org and www.herefordshiremac.com.Here's the story so far.
Back in December 2006 club member Mark Finning, a professional website designer, offered to build us a new site. The old site was reaching it's storage memory limit and since the renewal date was February 2007 the committee thought that Mark's offer was very timely.We bought the name www.herefordshiremac.com for Mark's new website. Unfortunately Mark wasn't able to get the new site up and running before the old site's renewal date, so we were left without a website when the old site subscription expired. As an interim measure we had Mark upload the old site's content on to the new site with the intention of making the old site's address simply point to the new site.
This is when the story gets complicated. You need to know that buying a website involves two things. 1) the address, or URL and 2) some physical memory space on a host computer's hard drive. The old site was hosted by Claranet and, unknown to us, chose to buy rights to the URL on our behalf every two years. They effectively own the URL until February 2008 and are not prepared to use the name as a signpost to the new address.
The committee consider it important to have an active website particularly to provide advance information about our annual show. Also the name www.herefordshiremodelaeroclub.org is carried on our show adverts. We have decided therefore to renew our subscription with Claranet until February 2008 and John Warner will continue to maintain and update that site until Mark's site is up and running reliably. In the meantime the new address, www.herefordshiremac.com, merely redirects people to the old address.
That is all for now. Enjoy the weather and SAFE flying!
