Much Marcle Large Model Air Show 5/6 September 2009
I am writing to inform you that, with great regret, we have been forced to cancel our 2009 Show. This is especially unfortunate after last year's experience when we lost a considerable amount of money after cancelling due to the atrocious weather of 2008.

This year, the weather must also take most of the blame. In mid-July a Steam Rally took place on our flying field, Rye Meadows, over a weekend which was especially wet. As a result the field has been seriously damaged and large parts are mud baths. These areas are the entrance and surround and also the parts of the field which we use for trade stands and public walkways. We cannot change the layout because of the nature of the site. Photographs are on the Club Website

The fields we use for visitor camping and for public car parking are similarly damaged. Even if the mudded areas could be flattened and made sound it would require just another spell of rain at the wrong time for vehicles and people to make the field unsafe again.

Therefore we have no alternative but to cancel. Our sincere apologies for the disappointment but we really have no choice. We are also conscious of the need to minimise cancellation costs. At the moment we must leave any plans for future shows in abeyance until our Club AGM which will be held on November 19th in the Village Hall at Much Marcle.

Thanks to all members and friends who have supported our Shows over the years and to those who had offered to help this year.

When the field (hopefully) dries out it will be possible to drive on carefully, keeping very much to the area alongside the brook. The strip itself has not been affected. There are still some items on the field from the Steam Rally, which should be going soon., so please take extra care.

Another newsletter will be issued well before the AGM.
