As many of you will know the grass has now been cut on the field. The farmers were very careful to avoid tractors going over the strip, so our thanks to them. The sheep will probably be back after the Steam Rally.
The field is now being prepared for the annual Much Marcle Steam Rally which will be held on the weekend of 15th and 16th July (not 16/17 July as I put in the last newsletter). The field will probably be out of use to us from the Wednesday (12th) to the following Tuesday. Part of the strip will be roped off to protect it. It is unlikely that we will put on a static display as only two members have told me they would be available for any time on that weekend. That is 4% of our membership ...!
On 11th - 13th August is the " Music Madness" Weekend on the field which we covered in some detail in the February newsletter. Advertisements are now appearing for this event so we must assume it is still very much on, although there has been no further contact with the Club from the organiser. The Committee is still very concerned at the potential for problems should there be bad weather causing damage to the field and should there be any other damage to our strip. As we told you before, we have received assurances from James Powell, whose family owns the field and who is a fellow HMAC member, that only the southern half of the field will be available to the Music weekend; "our" half will be securely roped off, with adequate security cover; and any damage to the field will be made good before our show at the beginning of September. Let us hope none of this will be necessary!
Our own Annual Large Model Show is on 2nd and 3rd September. We do request your help to prepare for, and run, this event. We will start to set up the field from Tuesday 29th August and aim to have a repeat of last year when all was cleared away on the Monday (which will be the 4th Sept this year). A successful Show means income for the Club and means we can continue to support local Charities, but it also means that as many members as possible need to lend a hand.
Enclosed (webmaster's note: mailed newsletters only) is a form which I would ask you to please let me have back quickly so that we can plan the resources available. If you cannot be certain because of work or other commitments please reply anyway and give a best guess. We can clarify nearer the time. If you cannot help at all please also let me know that.
HMAC members at the Show are entitled to visit the hospitality tent for some complimentary tea, coffee or soft drinks but you will need to produce your membership card.
Training
As some of you know my wife is ill and I cannot run the training evenings for the time being. John Warner has taken on the task and Tuesday evenings are still very much on.If you want a BMFA "A" test please let me know.
That's all for now,Good flying,
Bernard Morris.
