HMAC Newsletter No 2008/4
15th July 2008

Bernard Morris

There is not a great deal to report this time. Decent flying weather has been rare and therefore there has not been much activity. Antony Redding's efforts at running the competition again fell foul of our perverse summer and had to be cancelled. Thanks to Antony for trying however.

Membership

We welcome the Bowden family from Llangrove.- Gary, his wife Tracey and son Charles.

Club Competition

The Competition had to be cancelled again due to the weather. We had bought vouchers for prizes and these will now be utilised to provide prizes in a draw for helpers at the forthcoming Show on 6th and 7th September, of which more below.

Noise tests

The recent changes seem to have been well-received and a number of tests have been successfully carried out (between the gales and showers). Remember, if you require a test please make an appointment with a Committee member.

The Field

The Annual Steam Rally is taking place over the weekend of 19th and 20th July. Over August Bank Holiday weekend there will be a large music event. The land owner has assured us that our strip and property will be protected and that any damage to the field will be made good for our show.

Show

This will be on 6th & 7th September. We have booked a display by a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight "Spitfire" on the Sunday and now also have a YAK 18 for a full-size display on the Saturday. So, there will be full-size aircraft on both days.

Enclosed (with copies of the newsletter mailed to all members) is a form which you are requested to complete and send back to me as soon as you can, even if you are not going to help. That avoids a lot of follow-up calls.

We especially look for some help on the Tuesday before the Show when we complete the main layout in time for our good friend Doug West to come along that evening with his magic machine to knock in all the posts. That saves a lot of hard work I assure you. Help on the other days is also wanted, and again on Sunday immediately after the Show and on the Monday (8th) when we aim to get everything cleared away by lunchtime. This year Gordon Saville has kindly agreed to arrange the gate rota, but please send all your responses to me in the first instance. If you know anyone outside the Club who might assist in any way they would be most welcome and also anyone who is willing to help in the hospitality tent, which will again be in the charge of Hilda Davies. If you are going to help and wish to camp on site please let me know asap as space is limited.

We had purchased vouchers as prizes for the cancelled competition. These will now be used to provide prizes for a raffle which will be exclusively for helpers at the Show (not just on the two days but in preparation, etc.). We will give tickets to all the eligible helpers and have a few good prizes for the winners. All will be explained at the time.

One or two people have asked if they can sell some surplus modelling goods at the Show. We will give it a trial this year and will set aside an area within the trade stands for the purpose. If you wish to take adavntage of this you need to pre-arrange with Antony Redding. It is not a Bring-and-Buy - it has to be limited to those who have reserved space through Antony. All we ask in return is that you make a donation from your takings. (It goes without saying that we want only good quality stuff on sale - no junk.)

That's all for now. Remember, if you have anything you want included in the next newsletter please let me know. Let's hope for another successful and enjoyable Show.
