It seems incredible that 2007 is about half gone already. I always thought that time seemed to go much more quickly as we got to more advanced years, but everyone, whatever their age, apparently feels the same. Maybe it's a symptom of modern life. Anyhow, here is the third of this year's newsletters.
Membership
Our membership stands at 47 including 7 Junior members. James Turtle of Hereford has joined since the last newsletter. James was a member a few years ago and we welcome him back.
Congratulations to Russell Downs and John Ratcliffe who have passed their BMFA "A" tests.
The Field
The field is down to hay and will probably be cut in the near future. Meanwhile, please keep to the mown areas wherever possible. The strip is in very good shape. We have had the Clubhouse painted and the fence around it repaired.
Steam Rally
This annual event will take place on Rye Meadows over the weekend of July 21st and 22nd. Preparations will be going on during the previous week so our use of the field will be curtailed.
Our Annual Show
This will be on the weekend of 1st and 2nd September. A little nearer the time we will be sending out our usual requests for helpers. Meanwhile, if any of you feel you would be willing to take on one of the main roles please let me know (01989 740619 or 07720 677056). We are looking for someone to be in charge of the main car park and also someone to look after all the disabled parking on the field. Volunteers for those jobs (on one or both of the days) would be very, very welcome.
Handy Hints
Thanks to Brian Cobb who has suggested that old bicycle tyre inner tubes are good for restraining models, safely pegged down and fitted over the tail.
Noise Tests
The committee has introduced a new noise test form which requires a little more information about the model, fuel used, etc. This is because we are seeing more models near the limits. For example, an increase in nitro content after testing could increase rpm by 500 or so and risk putting the model over the limit. Noise was the reason for our current restrictions on flying hours and we must do everything we can to avoid those problems again. Noise tests will be supervised by a committee member in all cases. We ask for your continued co-operation in adhering to our noise rules and maintaining accurate records. Please book noise tests in advance and ensure your model is ready in all respects. Model inspection continues to be an integral part of the test.
'Bye for now. Safe flying.
