After such a long period of very poor weather in the middle of the year it was a relief to enjoy a spell of relatively good weather through much of the past few weeks. The number of people on the field at times demonstrated that, even though the wind was often rather unkind. As those of you who have been to Rye Meadows will have seen the field has now been levelled and the new grass seed is coming through. The seeded areas were also sub-soiled to break up the under-pan so should drain better in future. In the next weeks the sheep will come off the field for winter so the fence can then be put away for a while. Since the new electric fence was installed there have been very few instances where it has not been re-erected correctly so thanks are due to everyone for that.
AGMAs stated in the last newsletter the 42nd Annual General Meeting will be held in Much Marcle Village Hall on Thursday 19th November at 8.00pm. If you wish to bring up any items affecting the Club Constitution they must be lodged with me at least 30 days prior to the meeting.New MemberAll of the present committee are willing to offer themselves for re-election with the exception of John Cross who has moved from the area. If anyone else wishes to stand for committee please let me know before the meeting, with names of proposer and seconder.
If re-elected John Warner and I are both willing to continue in our jobs. The meeting will, as usual, have to agree next year's subscriptions and also re-confirm the 2010 Show ( provisional dates 4th and 5th September). Please note that any matters for AOB must be notified to me BEFORE the meeting in order that they can be properly dealt with. No items for AOB will be accepted on the night.
John Warner's wife, Bron, has very kindly offered to provide some refreshments for the meeting, so please make every effort to attend.
Please welcome Kevin Pursey from St. Owen's Cross, telephone number 01981 580410.The Late Bill Reynolds
Alan and his family have asked me to pass on their thanks for the messages, tributes and donations received after Bills' death. I understand a good sum was passed to the Air Ambulance in Bill's memory.Noise Tests
In order to help us to respond more quickly to requests for noise tests and airframe inspections Tony Grubb has been appointed a noise tester with the same authority as a committee member. Tony can be reached on 01981 540881. (Editor's note) number corrected here per December 2009 newsletter.Safety
Please remember to ALWAYS restrain your model or, better still, enlist the services of a helper. A momentary lapse can have serious repercussions. The moment at which you pick up a model in order to move to the strip, pick up your transmitter and, maybe, fiddle with a neck strap is a particular danger point. It is even more difficult with large models or those which are awkward to handle. Please always ask for help in these circumstances. Two other points: Props on electric motors have the same bite as those on glow engines and remember you are at risk if you fly alone. It is not recommended.Electric Flight
John Warner has written an article on his experiences (click here to view in a new window). Thanks to John for submitting it. If anyone else has anything which might be of interest to others I would be pleased to include it.
See you at the AGM.
